Pipe Jacking and Micro-tunneling
What is pipe jacking/microtunneling:
Pipe jacking/microtunneling is a trenchless technology of installing utility tunnels and conduits by applying force (from MicroTunnel Boring Machine) to push pipes through the ground while conducting controlled excavation at the face. The method provides a flexible, structural, watertight, finished pipeline as the tunnel is excavated.
Our Accomplishments:
- SCG started to develop and construct the technology for pipe jacking and underwater buried pipes since 1950s
- SCG developed our own underwater and underground construction for long distance pipe jacking 50 years ago
- In the 1980s, SCG developed the technology for tunnel shields
- SCG maintains records of several projects undertaken in China:
- The largest steel pipe in China – Qingcaosha Raw Water Intake Project (Yanqiao Branch QYZ-C4)
- ID: 3600 mm
- Thickness: 34 mm
- Single jacking length: 1960 m
- The largest concrete pipe in China – Shanghai Bailonggang SST2.2 Sanitary Tunnel
- ID: 4 m, OD: 4.64 m
- Single jacking length: 2039 m
- Total length: 7874.5 m
- The deepest pipe jacking in China – Yangtse River HuangGang Water Intake Pipe Extension Project
- ID: 1800 mm
- Thickness: 20 mm
- Depth: 53 m
- Jacking distance: 1629 m and 1656 m
- The largest steel pipe in China – Qingcaosha Raw Water Intake Project (Yanqiao Branch QYZ-C4)
